# Workspace MCP tools

Workspace tools let MCP clients list, create, edit, delete, and reorder Solo workspaces, and [move projects](../workspaces/managing-workspaces.md) between them. They are part of the core toolset and are available whenever the MCP server is enabled.

## Tools

- `list_workspaces` — List Solo workspaces.
- `create_workspace` — Create a workspace. `name` is required; `icon` (icon initials) and `color` (a color token) are optional.
- `update_workspace` — Update a workspace's `name`, `icon`, or `color`. Pass `workspace_id` plus at least one field to change; omitted fields are preserved.
- `delete_workspace` — Delete a workspace. Pass an optional `destination_workspace_id` to move its projects into another workspace.
- `reorder_workspaces` — Reorder workspaces by passing `workspace_ids` with every workspace ID exactly once, in the desired display order.
- `move_project_to_workspace` — Move a project, including any linked checkout group, into a workspace. Optional `before_project_id` and `after_project_id` placement hints control where the moved project or group lands in the destination workspace; they are mutually exclusive.

## Notes

Workspace tools pair with the project tools: `list_projects` accepts an optional `workspace_id` filter, and `create_project` accepts an optional `workspace_id` to import a directory directly into a workspace. See [Project tools](./project.md).

`delete_workspace` refuses to delete the last remaining workspace, and refuses to delete a workspace that still contains projects unless you pass `destination_workspace_id` so those projects have somewhere to go.

A typical flow for organizing projects: call `list_workspaces` to get workspace IDs, `create_workspace` for a new group, then `move_project_to_workspace` for each project that belongs there.

For the workspace concept and in-app management, see [Workspaces](../workspaces/overview.md).
