# Auto-start

Auto-start lets Solo launch eligible commands automatically for a project.

## How it works

During app launch, Solo checks auto-start after each stored project is initialized. The main configuration and policy conditions are:

- The process is a command, not a terminal or agent.
- The project's **Auto Start** setting is enabled.
- `auto_start` is enabled for that command.
- The command is [trusted](./trust-security.md).
- Any [license or project limits](../account/free-tier.md) allow the launch.

## Configure

You can set auto-start in the command settings with **Edit command...**, or set `auto_start: true` in `solo.yml`.

Project settings also include an **Auto Start** switch that controls whether Solo starts that project's auto-start commands during app launch, after the stored project is initialized.

The sidebar also has a project action for starting only commands marked for auto-start. That manual action is available even when the project's startup Auto Start switch is off. Separate [bulk actions](./start-stop-restart.md) can start all trusted commands regardless of the auto-start flag.

## Notes

- If a command is untrusted, Solo skips it without running it.
- Changing `auto_start` in `solo.yml` is a trust-sensitive change. A changed command variant may need review before it can auto-start.
